James is an orphan. His parents died when he was very young. He lives with his aunts, who bully him every day. They live in a house at the top of a hill, which has a peach tree in its garden. The tree has previously never given fruit. James has no friends and feels sad and lonely.
One day, a wizard comes to the garden. He gives James a bag of magical crystals. He promises James that if he eats the crystals, he will never feel sad or lonely again. James is happy to hear this. However, while running back to the house, James falls over and spills the magic crystals onto the peach tree.
The next day, a wonderful thing happens. A peach starts to grow on the tree. It continues to grow until it is bigger than the house! James finds a hole in the peach and goes inside.
Inside the peach, James meets a group of insects who look and talk like humans. The insects decide to help James escape from his aunts. When one of the insects chews through the stem of the peach, the peach begins to roll down the hill with James and his insect friends inside it. This is how James' incredible adventure begins!
