Section 2. In this section, you will listen to a conversation between Kevin and Misato. Misato is visiting a therapist, Kevin, to consult about her problems. Listen carefully and summarize Kevin's advice. The recording will be played twice. The conversation will start now.

Part 2

Misato:

Hi. I came here to share my feelings with someone. These days I'm always tired, but I don't think I am working as hard as other people. Every night before going to bed, I feel I should have spent my day more productively.

Kevin:

Oh, that must be stressful. I understand your concerns and maybe you think that the solution to that is pushing yourself harder. However, I think you're being too hard on yourself and maybe the goals you set for yourself are too big. When we work towards big goals, it is better to divide the route to that goal into small steps.

Misato:

So how would this help me with my problem?

Kevin:

See, dividing a big goal into smaller steps helps you feel accomplished each day. Even if you do something small, it will give you a feeling of achievement, so you don't have to feel that the day is completely wasted. I would recommend this approach to you.

Misato:

I see, I'll try that approach. I definitely have a problem of setting only big goals. However, sometimes I also feel like I completely lose sight of any goals and feel like that the future is too unclear.

Kevin:

Feeling unsure of what the future holds is a natural feeling. We all feel the same way sometimes. However, it's important to learn to deal with those feelings. We can't live our lives constantly worrying and feeling down.

Misato:

So, what can I do to stop overthinking and worrying about my future?

Kevin:

Well, actually, there are some small tricks that can help you shift your mood in a more positive direction. One such trick is doing certain activities that you usually do when you are in a good mood. For example, some people hum, sing, or smile when they are in a good mood. According to research, if you start doing those things even when you are feeling low, it can make your brain believe that you are in a happy mood. That can uplift your feelings.

Misato:

I have to be honest, when I'm talking about my problems like this, I feel like I'm weak. Other people are in a similar situation, but they don't seem to have any issues or worries.

Kevin:

I don't think that's the case at all. It takes strength to open up and start talking about your problems. It takes courage to seek out help and consult someone about your worries. You shouldn't hesitate to talk about your problems, and I would recommend you ask for help in the future too, whenever something worries you too much.

Misato:

Thank you. I feel like I've learned a lot, and this conversation has helped me feel relieved.

Kevin:

You're welcome. Thank you for visiting, feel free to come again anytime!
