① Sharbel:

As the second week of my internship at Shijonawate High School comes to an end, I would like to share some of the activities I have been lucky enough to take part in.
Most of my time has been spent assisting teachers in class, but my co-intern Nemo and I also had the opportunity to plan and teach two lessons of our own. We wanted the lesson to be fun and interactive, so we divided it into two parts. I introduced the students to Norwegian folktales and invited them to act out Askeladden and the Hungry Troll , while Nemo taught the students how to create their own stories using story panels, characters, and illustrations. While the lesson was not perfect, it was a lot of fun to plan and teach, and the students were enthusiastic and eager to participate.
I also had the chance to join a Shodo class, where we practiced Japanese calligraphy and created our own designs on traditional fans. It was my first time trying Shodo, and although my final result was far from perfect, I really enjoyed the experience.
Another highlight has been watching the students prepare for the cultural festival. From early morning until late afternoon, they have been rehearsing and working hard, and I feel very fortunate to be here to see the results of their efforts this weekend at the culture festival.
The students have been incredibly kind and welcoming, and the teachers have done a wonderful job planning my stay and providing me with many different experiences. I am very grateful for their support and look forward to what ahead.
② Nemo:
Hello again! I'm Nemo, one of the English interns here at Shijonawate High.
I've experienced so much within these past two weeks! The kids are ramping up their culture festival preparations, and are all incredibly busy. I have popped in to most of the classes, and it seems like their dedication and hard work is paying off. I'm very excited to see the finished products at the festival.
This week, I introduced myself to more classes, as well as participated in their lessons. I'm learning a lot about each teacher's process, and how they engage with the students varies from class to class. I'm trying to observe them as best as I can, and implement some of those methods in my own lessons when I start teaching!
Speaking of teaching, I got to teach two lessons, both today and yesterday. I focused on the mechanics of storytelling. For the activity, I made the kids pick out names and hobbies for a set amount of characters, then draw a short story with those characters in 5 panels or less. There were some technical difficulties, so not everything went perfectly, but it taught me a lot about the art of teaching.
This week has been very fun! I can't believe that it's almost over. Still, I will try to make the most of my time here!
