Students spent their first day at the University of Southern Queensland. They met their instructor, Ms. Chloe. She will be their teacher for the next three days. Students were taken on a tour of the campus where they saw the library, classrooms, pilot training center, student radio station and the cafe. After a tour of the campus, students learned about Australian culture and traditions. Students were put into groups and researched in English about various aspects of Australia. Then they created posters and presented in English about the various topics. The topics included: Australian Art, Australian Climate, Australian Sports, Australian people, and Australian events. Then each group presented information on their topics in English in front of the class. After a lunch break, students learned about Australian animals and plant life. Australia is truly a unique place, with many kinds of animals and plants that can only be experienced in Australia. Students are already overcoming their fear of speaking English. I am excited to see what will happen over the next 2 days.
