Today was one of the best days of my stay in Brisbane.
I got up at 5:10 am this morning to go to the New Farmers Market with my host family. Arriving at the new farmers park, where the market was held, I got so excited to feel refreshing air in the morning and see beautiful nature. As soon as we got off the car, we found jacarandas in the ground. It blooms every spring, and is so lovely purple. I wanted to come to Brisbane again in a different season. At the market, I got thrilled to find lots of bakeries. Eating bread in Australia had long been my dream, so I was happy. They were of course amazing and I thought dough of bread is much more delicious here than in Japan. Maybe because wheet is better. It was fun to eat bread surrounded by the nature and elderly women, whose average age was 78. I was so surprised at their cheerfulness that I couldn't believe their age. After having brekky, I walked about in the market. I tried juice that was made from carrot, apple, and jinjer. Jinjer was playing a good role and it was good! Everything there was so fascinating that I would go there every weekend if I had such a market near my house. After that, we walked in the park and took lots of nice photos. It was worthy of getting up so early in the morning!
After the market, I went to a few places: along the river, a park, a large home center. I had the great last time with my host family there. Whenever I went to new places, I was surprised at the huge size.
Returning home, after we finished packing, my host family gave us special presents. I was so happy! I'll cherish it forever as a precious memory of my time in host family's house. To tell my big gratitude to host family, I gave massage cards in return. And then I took photos of all with presents. It was impressing to exchange gifts and tell our gratitude to them. I'm happy to have such a nice host family.
In the afternoon, I went sightseeing and shopping with a teacher of Holland Park. First, I went to Mt. Coot-tha by car. The landscape from the summit of it was amazing! I could see the whole Brisbane city. Though there were many building, the view of it was quite different from that of Osaka or Tokyo. I think that's because there are more nature and less tall buildings. I preferred the view of Brisbane. After that, we headed to a supermarket, Woolworths, to buy more souvenirs. On the way there, we found a tiny library on the road. The appearance was like a public telephone. The teacher explained that it can be used by everyone, that is anyone can borrow books from it and put their books in it so other people can read them. I was impressed by the system, and I learned a new thing that is not in Japan. After the shopping, I went to the Sky Deck. The view from it was also awesome. The floor was transparent and standing on it was a little scary, but impression was bigger.
Returning home, we did the final packing to leave host family's house. How sad I was to say goodbye to the house and the dog...! When host mother said "Go to another journey. Don't be sad," I cried for the first time since I came to Australia. She is 76 and had so many experiences in her life. I respect and thank her very much for meeting me and teaching various things. I didn't want to say goodbye to her, but what I had in my mind was only great memories with her, not sorrow.
The time I have to leave Brisbane came so soon. Before the boarding time, I ate the last sandwich and a chocolate slice made by my host mother. They were great! While waiting for the time to board, I suddenly recognized I had to leave Brisbane soon, and got Brisbane-sick. I missed everything there - friends, school, host family... I never got homesick, but I got Brisbane-sick so early, even when I was still in Brisbane. I loved it that much. I was so lucky to meet such nice people and make great memories.
