Summary④

Through this training session, I strongly realized that the English skills I have are completely useless in the foreign countries .

Even if I can do well on speaking tests in Japan,I became nervous when confronted with the local people, atmosphere, and environment.I was unable to express my intentions effectively to others.

However, my host family and the teachers and students at Holland Park High School were very kind to me and taught me English patiently. So I was able to have a wonderful time with friends who were different from those in Japan.

Just before leaving for Australia, Principal Mr Tachikawa said

"This training session doesn't have a clear purpose. I think it's just to experience how to deal with things in a foreign country where their strengths are completely useless."

I was confused by many things in a foreign country, but that confusion was filled with new discoveries and realizations, such as, "This is how it is in Japan, but it's like this in Australia!", and I learned a lot about a culture I had never known before.

This made me realize that when I am in a completely unfamiliar environment, rather than trying to cope with using my own strength, I can learn something new by resetting myself to zero, relaxing my body, and surrendering myself to the environment.

I think that is the best way to adapt to a different environment.

I was able to attend this training session thanks to the help of so many people. Thank you so much.

自分のもっている英語力は世界では全く通用しない ということをこの研修会を通して強く実感しました。 日本でスピーキングの試験ができたりしても、現地の人々、雰囲気、環境を前にすると日本に慣れすぎに私は緊張して自分の意思を相分に うまく伝えられませんてした。しかし、ホストファミリーやホーランドパーク高校の先生・生徒のみなさんが、親切に接してくれたりゆっくり英語を教えてくれたりして、日本とは別の

仲間と共に、最高の思い出を作ることができました。 オーストラリア出発間際に立川校長先生が"この研修会って明確な目的がないんですよ。多分、自分の強み が全く通用しない異国でどう物事に対処していくかっていう 経験をすることやと思うんです。"とおっしゃって私は異国でたくさんのことに戸惑いまくったのですが、その戸惑いというのは、日本ではこうなのに、 オーストラリアではこうだ！という新しい発見や気づきの連続で、今まで知りもしなかった文化の学びが 自分の戸惑いの中にぎっしり詰まっていました。 これにより私は、自分が自分の全く知らない環境下に いるとき、自分の武器で無理に対処するのでなく、 自分を0にして、体の力を抜き、環境に身を委ねる ことで、新たな学びに出会えると感じました。 逆にそのことが、異なる環境になじむ最短の手段と思います。

私は本当に様々な人にお世話になってこの研修会に 行くことがききました。本当にありがとうございます。
