Day 4 Thursday 6/3

Thursday 6th March

Cyclone is coming, but it was sunny this morning. Our school; Holland park state highschool is closed today and tomorrow because of cyclone, so I spent time with my host family.

Throughout the day, I found there are some differences between Aussie life and Japanese life.

So I wrote about it today's diary.

First is words. Aussie people use a lot of slang. Of course we don't learn about slang in school, so we can't know it without studying abroad. According to my host sister, Aussie people don't like long words. So their word are sometimes abbreviated.

For example they said "ta" it means thank you.

Second is payment. We went to a supermarket with my host mother today. At the store, my host mother paid money by card instead of cash, this is more convenient and many people don't carry cash eith them anymore. In Australia, cash -less payment are more popular than Japan.

Third is prices. Although it changed depend on season, Aussie fruit and vegetables are so far cheeper than Japan. I was surprised seeing the whole watermelon is only $1.90 .But drink and snacks are more expensive than Japan.

Forth is food culture.

We made our own pizza to today for dinner. My host mother let me use some pineapple. In Japan, almost people don't use pineapple on their pizza.

サイクロンが来ているけど、今朝は晴れでした。私たちの学校、ホーランドパーク州立高校は、サイクロンのために今日と明日休校するので、ホストファミリーと時間を過ごしました。

今日1日を通して私はオーストラリアと日本の生活の違いを見つけました。だから、今日はそれについて書こうと思います。

1つ目の違いは言葉です。オーストラリアの人々はたくさんのスラングを使います。もちろん私たちは学校でスラングを習わないので、留学しなければスラング知ることはできません。私のホストシスターによると、オーストラリアの人々は長い言葉をしゃべるのが好きではないそうです。だから、彼らの言葉は時々略されています。例えば彼らはよく「ta」といいますが、これは「thank you」、ありがとうという意味です。

2つめの違いは支払いです。私は今日いくつかのスーパーマーケットにホストマザーと一緒に行きましたが、ほとんどの店でホストマザーはカッシュレス決済を使っていました。なぜならそれしか使えないからです。キャッシュレス決剤はオーストラリアで

は日本よりもっと普及しています。

3つ目は物価です。季節にもよるけれど、オーストラリアの果物と野菜は日本よりかなり安く、スイカ丸ごと1個が2ドルで売れているのを見て驚きました。

最後は食文化の違いです。私たちは自分用もピザをそれぞれ作ったのですが、ホストマザーはわたしにパイナップルを使わせてくれました。日本ではほとんどの人はピザにパイナップルを使わいません。

今日、私はたくさんの日本とオーストラリアの違いを見つけました。そしてそれらのほとんどが留学しなければ知れないものばかりでした。だから私はオーストラリアの文化を日本に持ち帰って、国際理解の一助になればいいなと思っています。
