Sunday ①

The weather was awful throughout the day. Almost all the TV news was broadcasting damage caused by the cyclone. Many houses lost power, lots of trees were broken in the wind, and over 700 schools were closed due to the unavailability of transportation. We are suffering from such a terrible disaster, but I heard that my family in Japan hasn't seen any news about it. I was surprised at this fact, and I realized there are so many things we don't know and we can't know all the news around the world. It's difficult to grasp them especially if we only watch TV or newspaper, so I think it is important to pay attention to the world all the time and search on our own.

I had already been staying at home for a long time and had nothing special to do, so I studied English in the morning for the first time in many days. I focused on vocabulary, which was about academic subjects, but I thought it less important than practicing listening and speaking so we could communicate with foreigners. I'm having difficulty, especially in speaking through interacting with my friends. I made up my mind to study more practical things as well as academic subjects when I go back to Japan.

After having a wonderful lunch, I watched Harry Potter all in English. It was the first time that I watched it and also it had no subtitles, so it was hard for me to understand the story precisely. I thought watching movies in English was one of the most difficult things for the Japanese. I think we can train ourselves to get used to listening to native speakers by watching movies, YouTube, and even TikTok in English. I guess they are the easy ways to continue practicing English every day!

I think I'm doing my best to make the best of these rainy days, but I was satisfied with staying at home now. I'm so excited to go to school and see my friends tomorrow! I want to talk with them as much as I can and gain various skills like English proficiency, expressiveness, and communication skills.
