Super Global Seminar (SGS) Started

Hello! I am Jodai, an English teacher.

This year again, Super Global Seminar (SGS) in a 10-part series started by making use of Saturday morning.

The number of participants is 48 first year students as a result of lottery because 70 students applied, exceeding the predetermined framework. The number was increased from the last year's 34.

The SGS mainly consists of Impromptu English Debate and Logical Thinking courses, aiming to train students' logical thinking, critical thinking and English abilities.

Here I will report about the first seminar held on April 15.

(The course of "How to put out of voice" by music teacher Teshirogi and social studies teacher Shikata)

Most students are not used to speaking in public, so they tend to speak in a low voice.

No matter what good opinions they have, it will be useless if their voice is too small to convey the opinions effectively. So, both teachers provided basic voice training.

The students learned abdominal breathing, postures and how to move the body.

After that when they competed in vocalizing in the gymnasium by separating into some groups, the second year students' vocalizations were much better, maybe due to the difference in physical strength.

In the second SGS, Jodai gave a lesson of "reading aloud marathon," though not reported in the blog.

Next time I will report about the third SGS "Debate Course for GUROSUTA Students."
