Thanks, 2022!

  アメリカ、イギリス、カナダ。GL10校の生徒たちと様々な大学を訪れ、学び、進化・成長を遂げる生徒たちの姿にここ10数年触れて過ごしてきた。オーストラリア、シンガポール、台湾、韓国、それぞれの国の大学生や高校生にたいして初日は臆していた生徒たちが堂々と、時にはジョークを交えながら、プレゼンをする姿にいつも大きな可能性を感じさせてもらってきた。 

2022年、12月。B&S、世界の屋台体験、イマージョンプログラム。語り掛ける、議論する、発表するそれぞれの姿を見ながら、英語を道具として使えるようになることにより、自分の世界を広げていくことができるその可能性を手にしていきつつある生徒の皆さんに拍手を送っていました。うまく伝えられた表現、出なかった言葉、届かなかった想い、すべて皆さんをこれから支えてくれるものです。心に下支えされた音―「意」となります。「意味」「意義」のあるこの経験が、皆さんの中に「誠意」「善意」を生み出す源流となり、「意図」「意見」を発信する力を生み出すこととなっていきます。「志」を高く持 ち2023 年も心から湧いて出るよく響く音を聞かせてください。

  ン?欠けてる。+、+。茨の道を「き」(木)―「奇」「鬼」「起」なる力で「嬉々」として「危機」を乗り越えていく茨高生を感じてくれたほっとスクエアに参加してくれた神戸大学の留学生ホセさんのメッセージを添付します。2023年の力添えとなりますように!

 Based on what I could observe during the visit to Ibaraki High school, I can mention some interesting things:
 For starters, the idea of having students as the main actor in that activity and giving them the chance to be responsible for its development is genius. It promotes higher thinking abilities (like problem-solving among others) and it probably makes them feel important. All of them were really well prepared, they welcomed us so kindly, they were very considerate of my lack of language, they were in charge of introducing the activity, monitoring the time we had to carry out the meeting and the rest of the activities, among other functions.  In addition, it is surprising the number of workshops or extracurricular activities promoted by high school. Their wide range going from sports to more traditional cultural workshops relate to students' motivation, and I think is interesting. In Chile (based on my own experience) workshops usually focus on some sports that are famous, a few art-related workshops/clubs, but mostly they're focused on academic subjects (like math or language), which in my personal opinion they lack appealing to students, especially considering that extracurricular activities are held after lunch (from 2 pm approx. to 4 pm).

 In relation to that, I was positively shocked to see so many students engaged in their club activities even on Saturday! In Chile, we can rarely have school-related activities during the weekend, so it was quite surprising to me. Moreover, I loved how committed the high school staff (including the principal) was that day. I can only think, they really loved what they do; also students' reactions towards the principal as well as their teachers, made me think about how strong and respectful relationships are at Ibaraki High school.

 Finally, I am grateful to have had the chance of participating in such a fruitful initiative, sharing a little yet so meaningful time with students and having some insight into how education is in a Japanese High school.
